Fresh starts
The promise of a new year yet to unfold tends to bring with it a lot of optimism, hopefulness, and aspirations.
The start of 2025 for me was a little less inspirational than this. I have been dealing with a cold for a few days which I cannot seem to shake off, haven’t run in almost a week because of it, and instead I am left feeling depleted, bloated from the festive food, and surrounded with hankies and tissues. Not quite the start I had hoped for, but nothing better a good dose of reality to sharpen my focus and ground my feet.
While the momentum that can be gained from the prospect of a new beginning is enticing, I have learnt time and time again that the first day of the new year is no different than any other day of the year. One can make a change at any time, with the right actions. Instead of focusing on my lack of motivation and energy on the first of January, I am choosing to refocus my attention on my day-to-day habits; those small actions that, once taken, boost my motivation and generate new energy for forward motion.
I hope that whatever your start to 2025 looked like, you can find the discipline and strength to go back to or start building those habits that will bring you to the version of you that you would like to become by the end of the year.
